“The laboratory was set up to solve problems of the agricultural sector, but at present it is also working for the benefit of the healthcare system. Our laboratory has been accredited and has received permission to work with potentially pathogenic microorganisms,” head of the research laboratory of DNA technologies at the Grodno State Agrarian University Olga Yepishko said.
According to her, the laboratory boasts cutting-edge equipment for PCR-based diagnostics, which enables to identify viruses with 100% accuracy, provided the sample is collected correctly.
“Coronavirus testing is conducted by specialists of the molecular genetic testing department. They have been authorized for this activity,” Olga Yepishko noted. The laboratory is set to analyze the first batch of samples on 11 May. Samples will arrive from all parts of the region. The results will be ready on the same day.
“We are interacting with polyclinics and hospitals. I would also like to note that we have all the necessary protective equipment,” Olga Yepishko stressed.
The laboratory plans to perform up to 200 tests per shift. If needed, the laboratory will increase this number.
