Kochanova re-elected Chair of Council of Republic

Natalya Kochanova has been elected Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of  Belarus of the eighth convocation, BelTA has learned.

The chairperson of the Council of the Republic was elected by secret ballot at the first meeting of the first session of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the eighth convocation. Members of the Council of the Republic unanimously supported her candidacy.

Nominating Natalya Kochanova to this post, member of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Rusy described her as a person of action. “Having headed the Council of the Republic, she heightened the role of the upper house of parliament, made it more efficient and helped establish closer contacts with local authorities. She also contributed to women’s and youth empowerment in Belarus. I am confident that Natalya Ivanovna will make sure that all the tasks set by the president and the people will be fulfilled,” said Mikhail Rusy.

Natalya Kochanova assured members of the Council of the Republic that she would put in all her efforts, knowledge and experience to serve the people and the country. “At the meeting with parliamentarians of the seventh convocation, the president spoke highly of our work. And we cannot lower this bar. We must keep it up relying on the groundwork laid by our colleagues from previous convocations,” the speaker emphasized.
