Employees of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus awarded with the “Stars of the Commonwealth” prize

The awarding of laureates of the interstate prize “Stars of the Commonwealth” - employees of the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Olga Nikolaeva and Oksana Vankevich took place in Ufa within the framework of the XVII Forum of creative and scientific intelligentsia of the CIS member states, the press service of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus informed BelTA.

Delegations from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan took part in the gala event.
On June 18, 2024 the Council for awarding the interstate prize “Stars of the Commonwealth” announced the winners of the main humanitarian award of the CIS for 2023. There were 11 nominees from 7 countries for the prestigious award. By the decision of the jury, which consisted of prominent cultural and educational figures from all CIS countries, the prizes were awarded to seven applicants. Among them, the winners of the “Stars of the Commonwealth” award in the nomination “For Outstanding Contribution and Achievements in Science and Education” were the authors of the Yakub Kolas Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences: Oksana Vankevich - senior researcher, Irina Kondratenia - leading researcher, Olga Nikolaeva - leading researcher.
The employees of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus were nominated for a prestigious award for preparing the two-volume “Russian-Belarusian Systemic Semantic Dictionary” (Minsk, 2023). This is an original type of dictionary that demonstrates the systemic character of lexical level organization on the example of correlative fragments of two closely related languages (Russian and Belarusian) - 16 correlative lexical-semantic fields.This work represents a new type of bilingual lexicographic work in Belarusian linguistic science and has no analogues not only in Belarus, but also in the CIS countries.
The interstate prize “Stars of the Commonwealth” is awarded annually to the representatives of the Commonwealth states for the most significant successes in the sphere of humanitarian activity, corresponding to the level of world achievements and contributing to the development of each of the CIS member states and the Commonwealth as a whole.
