A Belarusian delegation headed by Emergencies Minister Vadim Sinyavsky is taking part in a meeting of the CSTO Emergency Coordination Council in Kyrgyzstan, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry.

Attending the event are the heads of rescue agencies from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan, as well as the leadership of the CSTO Secretariat. Delegates are set to review the council’s activities over the past year and discuss cooperation with international organizations in providing assistance to those affected by emergencies, the holding of the special exercise Skala 2026 with emergency units assigned to the special‑purpose formations of the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Forces, the response of CSTO member states to emergencies, and the deployment of a network of humanitarian response centers in the CSTO collective security regions.

“Our countries are increasingly experiencing dangerous natural disasters that were not previously typical for the region. Recently, Belarus has faced unusual weather events such as strong winds, heavy rain, and thunderstorms, causing significant material damage and temporary interruptions to essential services,” Vadim Sinyavsky noted in his address to the meeting.

He drew attention to the high risks of man‑made emergencies, which require rescue agencies to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of people and economic facilities in today’s conditions.

“All these factors underline the need for the constant development and improvement of a robust system of interstate cooperation in readiness and response to emergencies. An important aspect of this is interaction within the CSTO,” the minister stressed.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties are expected to elect a new chairman of the CSTO Emergency Coordination Council. The Belarusian side has chaired it three times. Minsk hosted the council’s meetings in 2012, 2017, and 2023.

The Belarusian rescue agency is one of the most active members of the council. In particular, it provides training for specialists from CSTO member states under advanced professional education programs. Representatives of Belarus’ ministry regularly take part in joint exercises. Belarus also does not stand aside when major emergencies occur in CSTO countries.
