"Of the five EAEU countries it is Belarus that has built the most systemic work in terms of state supervision over compliance with the technical regulations and mandatory requirements. While working with the authorized bodies of Belarus, we receive ample information that we communicate to all our countries so that they see that they are most likely to have the same picture," Viktor Nazarenko said.
Some EAEU countries have introduced restrictions or a complete moratorium on inspections of product compliance with safety requirements, he noted. A meeting will be convened soon with representatives of authorized bodies in the field of state supervision and accreditation of the EAEU countries to try and build joint work tactics. "We need a normal dialogue of all five countries on ways of building an effective system for protecting our consumers from unsafe products," the EEC minister emphasized.
According to him, the largest share of non-compliant products is registered across the following groups: food, electrical, perfumery and cosmetic, goods for children and adolescents and toys. Violations of specific safety requirements for a particular product account for about half of all violations. Violations of labeling requirements account from 20% to 30%. "Labeling violations are, as a rule, a sign that a product is counterfeit," the EEC minister explained. Violations of the conformity assessment procedure constitute the third group of most frequent violations.
