The unique edition contains the photographs and information about the rarities from six museums of Belarus and Russia: the Museum of Defense of the Brest Fortress, the Khatyn State Memorial Complex, the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, the Museum of Victory on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow, the State Museum of Heroic Defense and Liberation of Sevastopol, the Stalingrad Battle Museum Reserve.
The ambassador stressed that the memory of the war is carefully preserved in both states. “I watched today how young guys react to your words, to your optimism, to the call to live cheerfully, smart, without going over the top and without pessimism... It's a call on all of us today," he said.
Speaking to the media after the ceremony, the ambassador stressed that during the Victory Day celebrations it is very important for the peoples of Belarus and Russia to stay united, to try to comprehend the events of that difficult time and pass this historical heritage on to the younger generation. “Let us move away from confrontations [regarding the approaches to the 9 May celebrations in Moscow and Minsk this year]. Let us think about what we can do, about our war veterans. Let us, as President Vladimir Putin said earlier and President Aleksandr Lukashenko said today, get ready for this celebration, thinking about what has been done and look into the future with optimism,” the diplomat said.
