Putin arrives in Minsk for Union State summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Minsk to attend the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Belarus-Russia Union State. The Russian leader's plane landed at Minsk National Airport, BelTA has learned.

Other high-ranking participants of the meeting had arrived in Minsk earlier. They include members of the Supreme State Council from the Russian side - Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenko. Russia’s State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin was also supposed to take part in the meeting, but Russian media reported earlier that he had tested positive for coronavirus and would not be able to attend the event in Minsk.
The meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State will be held in Minsk on 6 December under the chairmanship of President of the Republic of Belarus, Chairman of the Supreme State Council Aleksandr Lukashenko.
The meeting will be held in the run-up to the 25th anniversary of the Union State Treaty. Its participants will consider progress in the implementation of the guidelines to the Union State Treaty provisions for 2024-2026 and the Union State Security Concept.
The Supreme State Council will also consider a number of other issues in various areas that are important for the life of people and the work of economic sectors in the Union State. These include the formation of a common electricity market, abolition of roaming in the Union State, protection of consumer rights, countering illegal import of goods into the Union State. Preparations for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War will be on the agenda too.
