A total of 324 applications have been submitted for the 8th edition of the Eurasia. DOC, the CIS Countries Documentary Film Festival, Chairman of the Board of the Belarusian Union of Journalists, Executive Director of the festival Andrei Krivosheyev said at a press conference timed to coincide with the festival, BelTA has learned

"All in all, we have received 324 applications from 16 countries. The program includes 32 films from 10 countries. One of them is shown out of competition. The festival had a three-day run in Smolensk where we held an opening ceremony, a number of roundtables, presentations of new multimedia projects and screenings. We received a lively response from the Smolensk audience," Andrei Krivosheyev noted.

"Three finalists were selected in the youth competition of short documentaries ‘Eurasia.DOC: 4 minutes’. We will name the winners together with the youth jury here in Minsk," he added.

Among the trending topics he singled out the topic of safety, including on the internet, the place of a person in the world and a hometown. Many films narrate about people who, thanks to their inner growth, make life around them much more comfortable and open to other people.

The director of the festival, Valery Shekhovtsov, noted that the roundtable "Horizons of a New World. Creative Principles of a New World Order" will be held in the House of Moscow on 3 October, and the roundtable to discuss "Memorable Dates of the Great Patriotic War. 80 Years of the Liberation of Belarus" at the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War on 4 October.

"324 applications is a new milestone for us. Last year there were 250 of them. We manage to fit many films into the program. Wveryone who has seen the competition documentaries says that our festival has taken another step forward and the quality of films has increased, and the age of participants has become younger. It is heartening to see young students making very thoughtful, interesting, high-quality films," Valery Shekhovtsov added.

“The geography of the festival is expanding. This year, we welcomed colleagues from Iran and China. Representatives of Iran held a meeting with Smolensk students. We feel a keen interest, and it is growing from year to year. It seems that we already have our own audience, and we are very happy about it," the director of the festival emphasized.

The program is available on the Eurasia.DOC website. Screenings will be held at the Belarus cinema house free of charge. Admission is free.
