Belarus withdraws from Council of Europe's Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport

Belarus has decided to withdraw from the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) that the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe adopted in 2007. The withdrawal is stipulated by decree No.377 signed by Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.

Belarus' withdrawal has been prompted by the fact that as of 17 March 2022 the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe suspended Belarus' participation in all the partial agreements of the Council of Europe. Apart from that, Belarus has seen no practical results from its participation in the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport for the last few years.

The Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport provides for coordinating efforts of the countries for the sake of promoting sport for all. Parties to these agreements include a majority of members of the Council of Europe as well as countries outside the council.

In July 2022 Russia decided to withdraw from a number of enlarged partial agreements and partial agreements of the Council of Europe, including the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport.
