Close fraternal cooperation with Russia is a great thing in today's turbulent world, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic Sergei Khomenko said at a meeting of the interparliamentary commission on interregional cooperation of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia in Minsk on 2 October, BelTA has learned.

According to him, the meeting was aimed at further development of interparliamentary cooperation to enhance ties between the regions of Belarus and Russia. "In the current turbulent world of growing distrust and tension, illegal unprecedented sanctions against our states and many others, it is important that we have such close fraternal cooperation without closed topics," Sergei Khomenko said.

"Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova pointed out that the exceptional level of political trust, mutual understanding, interest in the common result, and the truly exemplary nature of the Belarusian-Russian strategic cooperation is primarily the merit of the heads of our states. The role of our leaders cannot be overestimated at this crucial stage of the multipolar world formation, at a time of a global transformation, a crisis of dialogue strategies and great shifts in values. Thanks to the wise and far-sighted policy of the presidents of Belarus and Russia, the Union State remains a successful center of integration in Greater Eurasia and a flagship for all progressive forces of mankind," Sergei Khomenko stressed.
