Rector of Gomel State Medical University, infectious disease doctor Igor Stoma told which immunity is more reliable.

Igor Stoma told about the study conducted on the basis of the Gomel State Medical University. The preprint in English has already been published. The researchers monitored the immune response in those vaccinated with Sputnik V and Sinofarm.

Study participants were divided into two groups. The first included people who had not had COVID-19 – they had no antibodies before vaccination. The second group included those who already had some level of antibodies. The researchers concluded that people vaccinated with Sputnik V and Sinopharm in the second group had much higher levels of antibodies. This trend was observed up to 6 months.

Igor Stoma concluded that the immunity of those who have recovered from coronavirus, i.e. the re-vaccinees, is less stable and strained than the post-vaccination immunity. The earlier disease does not guarantee protection against recurrence. Omicron in vaccinated individuals will stimulate immune defences, resulting in easy or asymptomatic disease. At the same time, a proportion of people who have been ill with Omicron will be vaccinated after the disease. According to the specialist, such hybrid immunity is the most effective and reliable option for protection.
