Oleg Novitsky to listen to songs about Belarus before third space flight

The cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky, a native of Belarus, Hero of Russia, will listen to songs about Belarus before another space flight. He mentioned it during a prelaunch video press conference held at the Baikonur Cosmodrome on 8 April, BelTA has learned.

Oleg Novitsky said: “I've prepared several songs. Those are Nikolai Anisimov's I Am A Pilot, songs by Belarusian performers My Motherland is Belorussiya and Belovezhskaya Pushcha, a song about attack aircraft pilots and two songs about officers of the Airborne Forces.”

The launch of the 65th expedition to the International Space Station is scheduled for 10:42 (Moscow time) on 9 April. The expedition is timed to the 60th anniversary of the first manned space flight. The team includes the mission commander Oleg Novitsky, the flight engineer Piotr Dubrov, and the NASA astronaut Mark Vande Hei. The backup team includes the Roscosmos cosmonauts Anton Shkaplerov and Oleg Artemyev, the NASA astronaut Anne McClain. It was noted during the press conference that both teams had been vaccinated against the coronavirus.

The Soyuz MS-18 spacecraft is supposed to reach an orbit around Earth about nine minutes after the launch. It will spend about 3.5 hours to reach the International Space Station.

Over 50 scientific studies and experiments will be conducted as part of the expedition.

It will be the third space flight for Oleg Novitsky.
