It is important to have a broader assortment of Belarusian goods on the store shelves of Kaliningrad Oblast, the governor of Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast Anton Alikhanov told the ONT TV channel, BelTA informs.

He named transport one of the main areas of interaction. “Last year, a number of restrictions were adopted by the European Union. They do not hesitate to disregard all their obligations. We had to restructure supply routes very quickly. Now from 18 to 25 vessels run between St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad depending on a day, although at the start of 2022 we had only two ferries on this route, and now we transport a huge amount of cargo through this route,” the governor said.

He noted that by decision of the president and the government of the Russian Federation, almost RUB4 billion was allocated to the region this year to subsidize sea transportation to balance out the cost of sea shopping with that of rail transportation. “And we discussed with the Belarusian side subsidies for Belarusian goods so that their transportation would not be too expensive and we could continue to buy cement, lime, crushed stone from them,” the governor emphasized.

“It is good that agricultural products did not fall under these sanctions. We continue [to cooperate] very actively: we export to and import a lot of agricultural products from Belarus,” Anton Alikhanov stated.

“It is very important for us to make sure that Belarusian goods are available in large assortments on the shelves of our grocery chains,” he added.
