Elena Malysheva, head of the National Center for Historical Memory, member of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, speaking at a press conference at the TASS Kaliningrad regional information center, noted the common understanding of historical memory between Belarus and Russia on the issues of the genocide of peoples, as well as approaches to its preservation.

"Of course, there are those on our spectrum of the Commonwealth of Independent States who, like Russia, remember the genocide of the people firsthand, and who directly count Belarus among their citizens and victims of the genocide, so we have a very special constructive professional relationship with the Republic of Belarus," Elena noted. Malysheva.

She also added that Belarus has established a regulatory framework for preserving the memory of the genocide of Belarusians.

"This is a very important joint work, which, now in the year of the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, gives every reason to speak, again, of a common view, and therefore of a common understanding, including of the current geopolitical situation," the head of the National Center for Historical Memory emphasized.

REFERENCE: The National Center for Historical Memory was established by Decree of the President of the Russian Federation on November 2, 2023 in order to preserve and protect traditional Russian spiritual and moral values, culture and historical memory. The main objectives of the Center are to support and implement public projects and civic initiatives.

"Cooperation between countries on the topic of historical memory is very multifaceted, in the field of the expert community, joint publications of documents, events. Based on the decisions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, a specialized department for the preservation and protection of historical memory has been formed. The joint work that is supposed to be carried out within the framework of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Parliamentary Assembly is the vector that will also allow us to develop the general dynamics of preserving historical memory," Malysheva said.
