“I am sure that the overwhelming majority of the EU citizens do not support the policy of the EU agencies towards Belarus,” the MP said.
He emphasized that this manifests itself at many levels, including at the level of political parties.
Speaking about the attitude of the public to a multi-vector foreign policy, Andrei Savinykh noted that different levels should be approached differently, for example, communication between ordinary people, cultural contacts: “I believe that such communication should be as broad as possible, because no matter what position the European Union takes on us at the political level, these countries have a huge number of educated, cultured people who wish Belarus prosperity and all the best. Moreover, they like Belarus and are happy to communicate with Belarusian nationals.”
Economy is at the intermediate level, the MP continued. “As far as the economy and export are concerned, of course, we will sell our products to everyone who buys it. Why not? This is normal. We will promote mutually beneficial cooperation with the whole world,” Andrei Savinykh said.
But when it comes to the political level, the question arises what a multi-vector policy means. Andrei Savinykh asked whether vectors can be the same when it comes to the formation of macro-regions, unions of states. “Of course not,” the parliamentarian is sure.
“I believe that a multi-vector policy exhausted itself 15 years ago. This concept arose in the time of global peace, when all countries were committed to building a common world based on rules. It did not work,” Andrei Savinykh noted.
According to him, this means that a political union with Russia, the EAEU states is much more important for Belarus than relations with the USA, Canada, and the EU. “Yet, we are ready and open for cooperation,” he said.
