Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko named the main potential of Belarus and Russia's Nizhny Novgorod as he spoke at the 18th meeting of the Business Cooperation Council of Belarus and Russia's Nizhny Novgorod on 22 November, BelTA has learned.

In his speech, Roman Golovchenko touched upon the main promising areas for enhanced and accelerated development: “First of all, it is, of course, industrial cooperation. Thank God we have enough cooperation projects on our agenda. We have already elaborated on the project of Nizhecotrans as a site for the production of electric transport. We understand what and how to do. The project on the development of special vehicles based on MAZ chassis in the region is proceeding quite well. Some 1,000 municipal vehicles have been produced since the launch of this work in 2011. Nizhny Novgorod enterprises and manufacturers are involved in this work.”

“Of course, we will continue to increase supplies of automotive components to machine-building enterprises of the region. GAZ Group of Companies is the main consumer for us. Amid the fierce economic pressure on our countries, we, on the contrary, got together and took the necessary steps to keep our production afloat and also to ensure its progressive development. In 2022, the component supplies from Belarus to GAZ enterprises amounted to almost $15 million. This figure was reached in January-September 2023. This means we will surpass the 2022 results, and we have a program to introduce new items. This is real import substitution which is taking place today,” the head of government said.

Roman Golovchenko added: “We are increasing the amount of tractor and harvester deliveries. We welcomed the decision to implement a program of overhaul of Belarusian tractors at MTZ dealerships. We are ready not just repair, but upgrade them.”

He also touched upon the construction sector: “We are starting the construction of a school for 1,500 students in Arzamas. Today we have received assurances from the responsible officials that this project will be implemented.”
