A new agreement on cooperation in trade, economy, science, technology, social and cultural sphere has been signed by the governments of Belarus and Russia's Leningrad Oblast. The document was signed at the ninth session of the bilateral cooperation development commission chaired by First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Nikolai Snopkov and Leningrad Oblast Governor Aleksandr Drozdenko, the press service of the Belarusian government told BelTA.

Aleksandr Drozdenko said: “The agreement we've signed has not been balanced artificially but historically: the balance reflects our mutual interests. The new ecological direction is particularly important for us. We are talking about water purification technologies and equipment that the Belarusian side supplies.” The governor noted that Leningrad Oblast is considering the possibility of partnership with Belarus in choosing technologies for building household waste recycling enterprises on the basis of an enterprise located in Brest Oblast.

Thirteen water purification stations of Belarusian make have already been installed in Leningrad Oblast as part of the federal project Clear Water. Another nine stations are being installed as well as four modular wastewater treatment stations. The Russian region intends to buy 108 water purification stations and 31 wastewater treatment stations of Belarusian make in 2021-2022.

Plans have been made to increase deliveries of public transport vehicles that use various kinds of fuel, road construction machines, municipal vehicles, and agricultural machines from Belarus to Leningrad Oblast. Belarus will also sell more pedigree cattle, fertilizers, mechanical engineering and woodworking products to Leningrad Oblast.

Interaction at the municipal level is another key component of mutually beneficial cooperation. At present 24 agreements signed by towns, cities, and districts of Leningrad Oblast and Belarus are in effect. More and more participants get involved in interaction at the district level.

The sides also signed an action plan on cooperation in trade, economy, science, technology, and culture in 2021-2023.
