Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko has backed the concept of making Dribin District larger. Chairman of the Mogilev Oblast Executive Committee Anatoly Isachenko mentioned it after a conference hosted by the head of state on 7 July, BelTA has learned.

“When the head of state visited [Dribin District], the relevant instructions were given. We’ve implemented them and a report on making Dribin District larger was presented today. The president backed our proposals. The district will grow larger at the expense of Chausy District, Gorki District, and Mogilev District,” the head of the Mogilev Oblast administration said. “Aleksandr Grigoryevich [Lukashenko] has given instructions to work out and submit the relevant regulatory act. Together with the government we will once again polish all the aspects in order to minimize problems for the people. After all, people are the most important thing. This is why we are going to work on it but our proposals have been backed by the president as a concept.”

Anatoly Isachenko said that the size of Dribin District will become average for Mogilev Oblast as a result. At present the district occupies 76,600ha, including 40,000ha of land. Once it becomes larger, it will occupy a total of 96,000ha, including 56,000ha of agricultural land.

As many as 27 populated localities that are home to about 960 people will be affected. As far as social affairs are concerned, the head of the Mogilev Oblast administration is convinced that there should be no problems with that because according to the current legislation it is possible to choose which school children should go to or which polyclinic people should get treatment from. This is why the change of the administrative borders will not affect these matters.

On the whole, it is necessary to increase the efficiency of the work of Dribin District and give a nudge to its development. In terms of territory and population this district is the smallest one in Belarus now.

Once it becomes larger, Dribin District will be home to new commercial entities. Instead of three agricultural enterprises it will have five.

“The Agromashservis enterprise will start operating in this area. The enterprise will operate in what Dribin District will be: in the lands of Chausy District that we will hand over. We are setting up the Zarya-Agro enterprise that will operate in Dribin District but those lands are from Chausy District and Mogilev District. For our pedigree animal enterprise, for expanding the production of pedigree bulls of the meat variety we are going to additionally allocate up to 2,000ha of land. A complex will also be built at the expense of lands of Dribin District coupled with lands of Mogilev District. The Gorki grain elevator enterprise will expand its area and presence,” Anatoly Isachenko said while talking about the scale of upcoming changes.
