US Open: Belarus' Sabalenka advances to quarterfinal

Belarus' Aryna Sabalenka defeated Russia's world number 14 Daria Kasatkina, 6-1, 6-3, to advance to the US Open quarterfinal, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian will take on world number 23 Qinwen Zheng of China for a spot in the semifinal. Earlier, Aryna Sabalenka saw off Belgium's world number 112 Maryna Zanevska, 6-3, 6-2, world number 96 Jodie Burrage of the UK, 6-3, 6-2, and France's world number 62 Clara Burel, 6-1, 6-1.

In the women's doubles round of Last 16 Belarus' Victoria Azarenka and Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia defeated Indonesian-Japanese duo Aldila Sutjiadi and Miyu Kato, 6-2, 6-0.

The main draw matches will be played on the Flushing Meadows courts through 10 September. The total prize money for this year's US Open is $65 million. Winners in the men's and women's singles will earn $3 million each. Last year the US Open was won by Carlos Alcaraz of Spain and Iga Swiatek of Poland.
