Karaliova fails to reach quarterfinals in Olympic sprint classic

Belarusian cross-country skier Hanna Karaliova finished her run in the women’s sprint classic at the XXV Olympic Games in Italy on 10 February, BelTA has learned.

The qualification round began at 11:15 Minsk time, with 89 athletes vying for a top-thirty finish to advance to the quarterfinals. Hanna Karaliova completed the 1.5-kilometer course in 3 minutes 57.25 seconds, placing 48th. She finished eight seconds behind the athlete in the 30th, which was the final qualifying position. Sweden’s Linn Svahn (1:36.21) finished first. The elimination races are scheduled to begin at 13:45 Minsk time. Hanna Karaliova will next compete in the interval start free on 12 February.

A total of 2,900 athletes from 94 countries are participating in the Winter Olympics. The Belarusian delegation includes Marina Zueva (speed skating), Viktoriia Safonova (figure skating), Maria Shkanova (alpine skiing), Hanna Huskova, Anna Derugo, and Anastasiya Andryianava (aerials). The XXV Winter Olympic Games will be running till 22 February.
