Brest to host Belarus Rowing Cup

A new sports season on the Rowing Canal in Brest will open with the Belarus Rowing Cup, public relations specialist of the Brest Oblast Rowing Center Oleg Golos told BelTA

The competitions will take place on 26-29 April. The teams from regions and Minsk - more than 280 athletes - will take part in individual and team competitions. The Belarusian national rowing team will take part in the competitions, too. The competitions will be a qualifying event for the international rowing competition Grand Moscow Regatta.

Races will include two distances – 1,000m and 2,000m. The program will feature single sculls, double sculls, coxed fours, coxless fours, coxed eights. A traditional parade on 26 April will kick off the competitions. Entrance will be free on all competitions days.

“An intensive training process is underway on the Rowing Canal. Famous Belarusian athlete Ekaterina Karsten is guiding the most promising rowers. She will take part in the event as a referee. The Russian rowing team is also training here,” Oleg Golos said.

On 2-5 May the Rowing Canal in Belarus will host the open national competitions in memory of defenders of the Brest Fortress. The canoe sprint event will feature athletes born in 2005-2006.
