Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka reaches quarterfinals of 2023 Adelaide International

The Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka has reached the quarterfinal stage of the singles of the WTA 500 category Adelaide International Tennis Tournament in Adelaide, Australia with a prize fund of $826,000, BelTA has learned.

In today's match of the 1/8 finals, world's No.26 Victoria Azarenka beat world's No.28 from China Qinwen Zheng in two sets - 6:2, 7:5. The game lasted 1 hour and 40 minutes. Azarenka's next opponent will be Czechia's Linda Noskova (WTA No.102). In the first round Victoria Azarenka defeated Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina (39) in two tie-breaks - 7:6 (11:9), 7:6 (7:5).

Belarus' best tennis player Aryna Sabalenka (5) in the 1/8 finals also defeated the Russian tennis player Liudmila Samsonova (20) in two tie-breaks - 7:6 (10:8), 7:6 (7:3). In the match for reaching the semi-finals, Sabalenka will meet with the Czech player Marketa Vondrousova (92). In the doubles quarterfinals Aryna Sabalenka and another Belarusian Lidziya Marozava defeated the Spanish-Japanese tandem Cristina Bucsa / Makoto Ninomiya - 6:2, 6:2. In the semi-finals, the Belarusian duet will play against the Australian-Czech tandem Storm Sanders / Katerina Siniakova.

The competitions in Adelaide will end on 8 January. They are a test of strength before the start of the season's first Grand Slam tournament - the Australian Open, which will be held from 16 January to 29 January in Melbourne.
