Belarus taking part in Russian Swimming Championship in Kazan

Belarusian athletes are taking part in the Russian Swimming Championship in Kazan's Aquatics Palace, BelTA has learned.

Belarus has fielded its best swimmers Ilya Shymanovich, Anastasia Shkurdai, Alina Zmushka, Hryhory Pekarsky, Viktar Staselovich, Ruslan Skamaroshka, Anastasiya Kuliashova, Ivan Shamshuryn, Ivan Adamchuk and Anton Knyshau. Taking part in the tournament are athletes of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Syria and Tajikistan - in total more than 650 athletes.

The first competition day featured four medal events. Belarusians did not compete in these disciplines. The semifinal heats were held on 16 April. Three representatives of Belarus qualified for the Monday finals. Ilya Shymanovich clocked the best time in the men's 100m breaststroke. Alina Zmushka touched in second in the women's 50m breaststroke. Anastasia Shkurdai also showed second best time in the 50m backstroke.

On 17 April, the competition program will feature nine medal events.
