Belarus' Sabalenka reaches US Open semifinal

Belarus' world number two Aryna Sabalenka defeated world number 23 Zheng Qinwen of China, 6-0, 6-4, to reach the US Open semifinal, BelTA has learned.

On her way to the semifinal the Belarusian saw off Belgium's world number 112 Maryna Zanevska, 6-3, 6-2, world number 96 Jodie Burrage of the UK, 6-3, 6-2, France's world number 62 Clara Burel, 6-1, 6-1, and Russia's world number 14 Daria Kasatkina, 6-1, 6-3.

In the women's doubles quarterfinal Belarus' Victoria Azarenka and Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia will take on Russia's Vera Zvonareva and Germany's Laura Siegemund.

The main draw matches will be played on the Flushing Meadows courts through 10 September. The total prize money for this year's US Open is $65 million. Winners in the men's and women's singles will earn $3 million each. Last year the US Open was won by Carlos Alcaraz of Spain and Iga Swiatek of Poland.
