Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan to field largest teams for CIS Games

Belarus, Russia and Uzbekistan will field the largest teams for the 2nd CIS Games, Belarusian Deputy Sport and Tourism Minister Aleksandr Baraulya told the media in Minsk on 3 August, BelTA has learned.

"673 Belarusian athletes and 602 athletes from the Russian Federation will take part in the 2nd CIS Games. The third largest delegation has been sent by Uzbekistan. Junior and youth teams will compete in most sports but in five sports, namely beach soccer, weightlifting, sambo, field hockey and rhythmic gymnastics we will see the main national teams,” Aleksandr Baraulya noted. “The Games will be held across Belarus, which makes it unique. We wants to use the sports facilities that have been built in our country thanks to government efforts. We are always happy to see guests. Athletes from other countries are welcome to come and train with us, we will only be happy."

The deputy minister also expects very high competition in certain sports. "Eight teams will compete in the beach soccer tournament. Five of them are future participants of the 2023 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. In rhythmic gymnastics, viewers will see the classic confrontation between Belarus and Russia. Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have also sent strong teams. Weightlifting is also well represented. Serious competition is expected in sambo which will feature regular winners of major international forums, in particular the Mongolian national team," Aleksandr Baraulya said.
