Belarus expects over 4,000 athletes for 2nd CIS Games

Belarusian First Deputy Sports and Tourism Minister Aleksandr Dorokhovich named the number of participants in the upcoming 2nd CIS Games as he spoke at a press conference timed to the Day of Physical Education and Sports Workers on 17 May, BelTA has learned.

“On 13 May, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko signed Decree No. 134 “On the Preparations and Organization of the 2nd CIS Games 2023”. We are actively preparing for the competitions which will be held in 11 Belarusian cities on 5-13 August and will feature 20 sports. It is expected that more than 6,000 people will take part in the forum, including some 4,000 athletes, 900 coaches, 800 referees, 600 medical workers and 200 members of the delegations. The countries which have so far confirmed their participation in the games are Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. Teams from China, Malaysia, Lebanon, Iran, Egypt and Cuba are ready to compete in some events. Athletes from Albania, Bahrain, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, El Salvador, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Kuwait, Mongolia, Oman, Paraguay, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkiye, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Korea, Venezuela and Vietnam are currently being considered for participation in some events. Young athletes will compete for medals in most events, while adult athletes will compete only in rhythmic gymnastics, beach soccer, sambo, weightlifting and field hockey,” Aleksandr Dorokhovich said.
