Belarus claims 16 medals on opening day of Strongest Athletes Swimming Cup

Belarusian swimmers made a powerful start at the international tournament Strongest Athletes Swimming Cup in Minsk, securing 16 medals on the opening day of the competition, BelTA has learned.

The home team’s athletes clinched one gold, seven silver, and eight bronze medals on the first day of the tournament. The victory was delivered by Anastasiya Shkurdai, who won the women’s 200m individual medley. Silver medals were won by Alesya Akinchits (1500m freestyle), Aleksei Rylko (200m individual medley), Anastasiya Kuliashova (200m butterfly), and Uladzislau Makarevich (50m freestyle).

Bronze medals were awarded to Kseniya Mastovich (1500m freestyle), Danila Bokhurov (200m individual medley), Uladzimir Mamekin (200m backstroke), Margarita Poleshuk (200m butterfly), and Dmitry Kukharenko (50m freestyle). The Belarusian relay teams further contributed to the medal count with three silver and three bronze medals.

Head of the Belarusian NOC Viktor Lukashenko stated: “Today, we opened the doors of our beautiful pool to foreign guests – approximately 500 swimmers from 11 countries are participating in the Strongest Athletes Swimming Cup. We are delighted that distinguished athletes have responded, including world and European champions, Olympic medalists, and young Belarusian stars of world swimming. I wish our athletes a great performance, that they demonstrate their skills, and win the coveted medals.”

The winners in 13 more events will be determined on 21 November. The competition will continue through 23 November.
