Russia reports 100% efficacy of EpiVacCorona vaccine

The efficacy of Russia's EpiVacCorona vaccine against COVID-19 is 100%, the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being (Rospotrebnadzor) informed, the Izvestia daily has reported.

According to Rospotrebnadzor, the vaccine efficacy is made up of its immunological and preventative efficacy. “The immunological efficacy of the EpiVacCorona vaccine is 100% based on the results of Phase I and II trials,” the press service of the Russian consumer health watchdog said.
Russia launched mass vaccination against coronavirus on 18 January. All Russians can get a vaccine for free. Sputnik V will be used at the first stage of the vaccination program. This vaccine was developed by the Gamaleya National Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Ministry of Health and was the first coronavirus vaccine in the world and in Russia. Its final efficacy was 91.4%; its efficacy against severe COVID-19 is 100%. At the same time, both EpiVacCorona and Sputnik V have shown high safety and the absence of serious side effects.
