More than 8% of GDP is spent on families with children in Belarus, Chairperson of the Belarusian Union of Women Marianna Shchetkina told a press conference in Minsk on 13 July, BelTA has learned.

“More than 8% of GDP is spent on measures to support families with children in Belarus, of which at least 1.8% of GDP - on cash benefits,” Marianna Shchetkina noted.

In her opinion, a lot has been done in the country to support families. With regard to further decisions, it is important that the public should be involved in the decision-making process and that its ideas should be heard. “The Belarusian Union of Women is a public association. We understand that what we are doing today lays the groundwork for the future and will affect the way our children and grandchildren live. It is important for us that the development of the country does not lose momentum. For that we need to know what people want. The country already hears the ideas of Belarusian Union of Women and takes them into account. This shows that today the civil society is actively involved in decision-making in our country. Our task is to continue to promote our ideas,” Marianna Shchetkina noted.
