“We have drawn up the development concept of Minsk National Airport for the next five years. It provides for upgrading the airport terminal: increasing the luggage storage capacity and renovating the first runway. There is an investor who will fund the construction of a hotel in the landside area. The work is set to begin next year,” Vyacheslav Khoroneko said.
The first runway is currently out of commission. Its renovation project comprises three stages: building a new apron, upgrading the runway and taxiways, and repairing the old apron. According to Vyacheslav Khoroneko, the renovation will end in 2027. The design work is nearing completion: the documents will be submitted for state examination and environmental assessment this month. The project costs about $130 million. The construction of the new apron where aircraft are parked will kick off next year.
“The central railway station and Minsk National Airport will be connected by a railroad line passing through the [China-Belarus industrial park [Great Stone. It will take 35 minutes to get here by a high-speed electric train. In order to make space for the new line, the parking lot near the terminal building will be closed. However, car owners should not worry, because plans are in place to build five-storey car parks nearby. The landside area will also get a makeover. Minsk National Airport resembles a true city with its services, departments, stores, a beauty salon, a post office, a drugstore, and cafes,” Vyacheslav Khoroneko added.
