Belarus relies on health and medical tourism: new initiatives and development plans

Belarus is actively developing health and medical tourism, considering them as priority and gross-forming destinations, making a significant contribution to the export of tourist services. This was stated by Ekaterina Goncharenok, Deputy Director - Head of Planning and Organisation of Tourism Activities of the Department of Tourism of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus, reports a correspondent of Soyuz.by.

Goncharenok highlighted the distinction between health tourism, which involves visits to health resorts and recreation centres, and medical tourism, which focuses on specialised treatment, including surgeries and procedures, accompanied by specialised companies. These companies take care of everything from visa support and medical documents to the selection of an institution, the organisation of operations, post-operative care and additional services such as excursions and transfers.
To popularise these types of tourism, a ‘Month of Health and Medical Tourism’ is being held, including various events: round tables, working group meetings, open days and an information campaign in the media. It is also planned to organise seminars for professionals, travel companies and media representatives to familiarise them with the potential of Belarusian health and medical institutions.

The Government of Belarus sees great potential in the development of medical and health tourism and is taking steps to attract foreign tourists and investment in this promising industry.
