Answering journalists' questions, Yevgeny Lukyanov said that during his diplomatic mission in Belarus he intends to focus "primarily on our fruitful, mutually beneficial and effective joint work." Speaking about his appointment to Minsk, the diplomat stressed that it was a great honor and privilege for him to represent the interests of his country in Belarus.
At the request of journalists, the Russian Ambassador also commented on transshipment of Belarusian oil products via Russian seaports. Ambassador Yevgeny Lukyanov noted that there is no need to look for political motives here. "Belarus made this decision. Any economic decision is based primarily on economic sense. There's no need to look for extra politics. Business, like money, loves silence, predictability, and stability. If Belarusian partners find it profitable to work through the ports of the Russian Federation, we will only be happy," he added.
The ambassadors of Russia, Iraq, Nicaragua, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia and Sierra Leone presented their letters of credence to the Belarusian head of state. Aleksandr Lukashenko outlined the prospects for cooperation with each of the states whose ambassadors were present at the ceremony.
Speaking about the cooperation with Russia, the president noted that Belarus has long-standing and strategic relations with the brotherly friendly Russia.
“I think that Belarus and Russia have reserves in almost every area. It is from these positions that we look to the future,” the head of state noted. "Our relations with the Russian Federation should not bother anyone," the president continued. He stressed that Belarus and Russia do not cooperate against anyone. "But if someone dares to challenge us - Russia, or Belarus, or Russia and Belarus at the same time – be assured we will respond," Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
"We have always found mutually beneficial solutions. I am sure that this is how it will be now and in the future," the Belarusian leader stressed.
