Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik met with Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Imangali Tasmagambetov in Minsk on 13 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Belarusian minister informed the CSTO secretary general about the priority areas of the organization's activities during the Belarusian chairmanship in 2023, which will be held under the motto "Through Solidarity and Cooperation Towards Peace and Security".

"I am sincerely glad to welcome you to the hospitable Belarusian land. We are also pleased with your appointment to your new position,” Sergei Aleinik said. “You have a wealth of experience in public service in various positions: in the government, the presidential office, and the Security Council. This creates an excellent basis for progressively developing our interaction and coordinating it with the organization that you lead. For our part, I would like to reaffirm our full readiness to contribute to your work. As the country that chairs the CSTO this year, we look forward to close cooperation with you on all matters on the CSTO agenda."

The parties exchanged views on the situation and new challenges and threats in the field of international and regional security, and the role and potential of the CSTO to respond to the evolving situation.

Sergei Aleinik and Imangali Tasmagambetov agreed on further cooperation on the implementation of joint activities within the framework of Belarus' chairmanship in the CSTO, including on the basis of decisions made at the session of the CSTO Collective Security Council, which took place in November 2022.
