CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev announced the agenda of the forthcoming session of the CIS Heads of Government Council in Sochi on 8 June as he spoke to the media in Minsk on 30 May, BelTA has learned.

According to him, the agenda of the upcoming meeting will include 15 issues. “They are all ready for consideration. The main issue on the agenda is the agreement on free trade in services. We have been working on this agreement for over 10 years. We hope that the agreement on free trade in services will be signed. There is every reason for that. This is the main issue of the forthcoming meeting of the CIS Heads of Government council,” Sergei Lebedev said.

The heads of government are set to discuss trade and economic cooperation. “There will be a whole range of issues. The parties are expected to approve the CIS industrial cooperation concept. It is a very important issue, as our economies, our industrial enterprises are closely linked. We supply components to one another, and many items manufactured in the CIS countries are the result of joint efforts of the CIS states. Therefore, the CIS industrial cooperation concept is very important for us. In addition, we hope the youth capitals of CIS countries will be approved for the next three years. Tashkent (Uzbekistan) is supposed to be CIS Youth Capital in 2024, Gabala (Azerbaijan) in 2025, and Kapan (Armenia) in 2026. A number of personnel issues will also be considered,” the secretary general said.

A regular meeting of the CIS plenipotentiaries is taking place in the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on 30 May. Plenipotentiaries are planning to discuss the preparations for the upcoming session of the CIS Heads of Government Council, which is due to take place in Sochi on 8 June. Members of the council will exchange views on economic cooperation in the CIS, consider draft industrial cooperation concept and a set of measures for its implementation up to 2030, sign agreements on cooperation in the exchange of data on monitoring the radiation situation and on the documentation of persons subject to forced exile, decide on the establishment of the Spartakiad among children with disabilities, approve the list of youth capitals of the CIS for the next three years.

Plenipotentiaries will also consider proposals for the draft agendas of the regular meetings of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council and the CIS Heads of State Council to be held in Bishkek in the autumn.
