EAEU countries vow to make concerted decisions on freight transportation across borders

16:49, 25 March

Member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) have agreed to make concerted decisions with regard to the transportation of goods across borders in conditions of the coronavirus situation, BelTA learned from Andrei Slepnev, Member of the Board (Minister) for Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission, after an extraordinary session of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission on 25 March.

Andrei Slepnev said: “We presume that we have a common market. Although the legislation formally authorizes us to take measures if there is an emergency or a threat to security and health, the sides have agreed that concerted decisions will be made on everything relating to the common market anyway. Consultations will be arranged, solutions will be found such as tools able to demonstrate that our union is viable not only in trouble-free times but also in troubled ones. Which is possibly a matter of fundamental importance now.”

The session of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission was held as a video conference chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Igor Petrishenko.
