Lukashenko sends St Patrick's Day greetings to Ireland

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has extended greetings to the people of Ireland as the country celebrates St Patrick's Day on 17 March, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.

“Belarusian and Irish societies have passed a difficult path to independence and statehood. We are all well aware of the value of sovereignty, the right to live freely in our own land and to determine our own future,” the message of greetings reads.
The president said that during the 30 years of diplomatic relations between the countries, despite the geographical distance, Belarus and Ireland have established strong economic, social and humanitarian ties. Aleksandr Lukashenko pointed out that the Belarusians remember and appreciate the help of their Irish friends in overcoming the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster.
“I am convinced that escalating tensions and a policy of confrontation do not correspond to the fundamental interests of the peoples. I hope that the wisdom and historical experience of the Irish people will help eliminate artificial barriers between the states and return the interstate dialogue back on a constructive track,” the Belarusian leader said.
The head of state wished peace, unity and wellbeing to the people of Ireland.
