Attempts to put pressure on Belarus through sanctions and politics are inadmissible, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated after Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov met with Stephen Biegun, Deputy Secretary of State of the United States of America, in Moscow on 25 August.

The sides exchanged opinions about the current situation in Belarus, BelTA has learned. The Russian side emphasized it is inadmissible to attempt to pressure Minsk through sanctions and politics in order to undermine the establishment of a mutually respectful dialogue between the government and the society in the country. Russia warned the USA and the European Union against any forms of interference in Belarus' internal affairs, including open calls from some capital cities to stage antigovernment rallies.
