Putin: External pressure on Belarus is counterproductive

Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the European Council Charles Michel, BelTA learned from the Kremlin press service.

“In accordance with the agreement, Charles Michel informed the Russian president about the results of the EU extraordinary summit on 19 August on the events in Belarus. The Russian side emphasized the counter-productiveness of exerting any pressure on the leadership of the sovereign Belarusian state and interfering in the internal processes. It has been confirmed that the speedy normalization of the situation in Belarus is in the interests of both Russia and the European Union,” the Kremlin said.
