Russian President Vladimir Putin invited the CSTO and CIS member states to take part in addressing humanitarian issues in Nagorno-Karabakh during the videoconference meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council on 2 December, BelTA has learned.

According to the Russian leader, with the war in Nagorno-Karabakh over, it is important today to help the affected people in solving humanitarian problems together. This pertains to the return of refugees, restoration of destroyed infrastructure, protection of religious and cultural monuments.

“Russia, in coordination with Yerevan and Baku, is already dealing with all the issues. We are of course interested in all our partners in the CSTO and CIS to engage in humanitarian efforts,” Vladimir Putin said.

During the summit, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan thanked Vladimir Putin for his personal involvement in resolving the Karabakh conflict. The Russian president, in turn, noted that the Armenian people are currently going through a very difficult period in their history. According to him, the Armenian authorities had to make very difficult but necessary decisions for the people.

“These decisions required a lot of personal courage from the prime minister. All the present here understand the degree of responsibility in making decisions of this kind. He assumed this responsibility. Our task now is to support both the prime minister and his team in order to establish a peaceful life, to achieve the implementation of all decisions taken and to help people who are currently in a difficult life situation,” the Russian president said.
