Ambassador: Independence, sovereignty important for every country

Such concepts as independence and sovereignty are important for every country, Russian Ambassador to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev told the media as he attended the Independence Day celebrations at the Victory Monument in Minsk, BelTA peported.

The diplomat wished Happy Independence Day to all residents of Belarus: “This is a special day for all of us, a day of remembrance of the fallen, the day of liberation of the Belarusian lands, Stalin's ten great blows that in 1944 determined the victory over fascism, the fall of Berlin and peace after the victory - the founding of the UN, which is still the most important institution of maintaining peace and collective international security (whatever one may say).”

According to the diplomat, the concepts such as independence and alliance, sovereignty and camaraderie, interaction, friendship, trust, sincerity are important for every country. As for the Belarusian-Russian cooperation, the ambassador stressed that it is important to “move away from small conflicts in favor of the strategy of special spirit of the relations between Russians and Belarusians.”
