Sabalenka advances to Indian Wells round of 16

Belarus’ world number one Aryna Sabalenka has advanced to the round of Last 16 in Indian Wells, USA, BelTA has learned.

In the third round, the Belarusian defeated Romania’s Jacqueline Cristian (World No.35), 6-4, 6-1. In the opener, Aryna Sabalenka beat Japan’s world number 132 Himeno Sakatsume, 6-4, 6-2. In her bid to reach the quarterfinals, she will face the winner of the match between Japan’s Naomi Osaka (16) and Colombia’s Maria Osorio (61).


The event in Indian Wells will conclude on 15 March. In last year’s final match, Aryna Sabalenka lost to Russia’s Mirra Andreeva, and in the 2023 decisive match, she was defeated by Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina. Belarusian Victoria Azarenka emerged as the winner of the tournament in 2012 and 2016.
