CIS Games: Russian Regina Shaidullina becomes first champion

Russian Regina Shaidullina became the first champion of the 2nd CIS Games, BelTA has learned.

On the opening day of the weightlifting tournament in Grodno, the Russian athlete won a gold medal in the 45kg weight category. Regina Shaidullina lifted a total of 150kg (65kg in the snatch, 85kg in the clean and jerk). Silver went to Thi Yen Dao of Vietnam - 141kg (63kg + 78kg). Belarusian Polina Pichugina placed third with 135kg (58kg + 77kg).

Three more medal events will be held in the Grodno Ice Palace: women's 49kg and 55kg, men's 55 kg.

Athletes from nine countries are competing in the 2nd CIS Games weightlifting tournament. It will be running until 9 August.
