CSTO spec ops forces free hostages in Brest during Interaction 2023 exercise

MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) – Special operations units of the Collective Security Treaty Organization member states carried out a counterterrorist operation to free hostages at a hydroengineering complex in the city of Brest as part of the Vzaimodeistviye 2023 [Interaction] joint exercise for the CSTO collective rapid response forces, the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

Several SWAT teams and a special operations unit from Kyrgyzstan stormed the complex, neutralized the militants and prevented an act of sabotage. Bomb technicians of the internal forces of the Internal Affairs Ministry examined the premises looking for explosive devices.

Firefighting units of the Emergencies Ministry extinguished a fire, evacuated victims, and provided aid to them.
