Specialists from Belarus and Russia have discussed approaches in personnel training for nuclear energy, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Energy Ministry.

The main areas of cooperation were reviewed during a working visit by a Belarusian delegation, which included representatives from the Energy Ministry and the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, to the Rosatom Technical Academy. The event was organized with support from the IAEA. During the visit, Belarusian specialists were presented with Russian experience in the development of nuclear energy infrastructure, including issues of strengthening the human resources capacity of the nuclear industry.

With the assistance of the Rosatom Technical Academy, approximately 800 operational personnel were trained for the BelNPP, and training programs across a range of areas were effectively implemented. Cooperation is ongoing and will continue to develop further, taking into account plans for the future development of nuclear generating capacities in Belarus.

Approaches for further interaction in personnel training for the industry, as well as for the formation and improvement of the nuclear knowledge management system, were discussed. Special attention was paid to areas of cooperation with the IAEA on issues of developing human resources capacity.

According to Viktor Mazepov, Director for International Cooperation at the Rosatom Technical Academy, the results of cooperation between Belarus and the IAEA, as well as the assessment missions conducted, demonstrate the country’s high commitment to the principle of ensuring safety.

“The missions demonstrated that the BelNPP construction project complies with necessary international safety requirements and that the personnel are prepared for its operation. Today, the BelNPP is a good example for countries new to nuclear energy,” he emphasized.

During the visit, the Belarusian delegation will tour the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant.
