Union State Prize in Science and Technology to Be Awarded in Spring of 2021

The Union State First Prize in Science and Technology is to be awarded in the spring of 2021, said Chairman of the State Committee on Science and Technology of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Shumilin before the meeting of the Committee on Single Scientific and Technical Space of the Union State, reports the correspondent of the Union State portal.

Alexander Shumilin noted that about 30 works received nomination for the prize. These works are the result of joint work of the two countries’ scientists. During 2020, the Expert Council for the Union State Prize in Science and Technology is to choose the best work.
“The works of about 30 teams have been nominated. At the upcoming meeting, we are going to approve the order of choosing the best innovation. After that, all the works will undergo an expert review and consideration. I think all these procedures will take place during 2020. And by the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia (April 2, - ed.) in 2021 the Prize will be awarded,” said the speaker.
Alexander Shumilin added that the main criteria that the Expert Council will be guided by when choosing the best invention are its contribution to scientific progress, significance of the invention for the Union State, as well as scientific novelty, technological effectiveness and the possibility of using it in the real sector of the economy.
The prize is awarded to Belarusian and Russian scientists, specialists or teams (up to six people) for outstanding results in joint scientific research, discoveries and scientific achievements that have significantly contributed to the development of natural, technical and humanitarian sciences, as well as for the joint development of new equipment and advanced technology ensuring innovative development of the economy, social sphere and strengthening the defense capability of the Union State.
The Prize is awarded once every two years to three laureates. The size of one prize is 5 million Russian rubles.
We would remind you that Minsk is hosting a meeting of the Committee on Single Scientific and Technical Space of the Union State. Experts are going to discuss the effectiveness of Union State programmes as well as plans for the next year and a possibility to shorten the term of Union State programme approval procedure to six months (at the moment, the procedure takes 3-4 years).
