The International Relations Faculty of Belarusian State University has hosted an exhibition of research papers written by academic teaching staff and published over the past two decades. The exposition of scientific and methodological literature is timed to the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty Establishing the Union State.

Opening the event, Deputy Head of the Union State Standing Committee Office in Minsk Vladimir Zhevnyak read out the welcome speech of State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota. The latter noted that this year marks the 20th  anniversary of the signing of the Treaty Establishing the Union State by the Presidents of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation. The Treaty embodies a sincere desire of the Russians and Belarusians to build their common home in a concerted effort. Grigory Rapota noted with satisfaction that it was the Union State that scientists of Belarus chose as a subject of their research.

“This short period of our history has been marked by significant achievements in many areas of bilateral cooperation, filled with valuable experience in solving vital tasks effectively. The relations of the two fraternal peoples based on the principles of trust and equality greatly contribute to the extension of mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation as well as to strengthening of socio-cultural ties,” reads the welcome speech of the State Secretary of the Union State.

As an official representative of the Union State Standing Committee, Vladimir Zhevnyak considers it symbolic to hold the exhibition at the faculty where young diplomats are given training.

“The exhibition is essential in terms of promoting the Union State. In the future, young diplomats will have to put in practice everything that has been achieved over the past twenty years. It is no coincidence that once every two years the Foreign Ministries of Belarus and Russia adopt a joint programme of work on the external vector,” said Vladimir Zhevnyak.

Among the speakers at the event were: the founder of the International Relations Faculty, Professor Alexander Sharapo; diplomat and international scientist Mechislav Chesnovsky; creator of a Scientific School of Foreign Policy Research in Belarus Vladimir Snapkovsky and others.
