The Union State project “Rarities of the Military History Museums of Belarus and Russia” has been presented in Minsk. The photo album was brought out by the publishing house Petrus Brovka Belarusian Encyclopedia and is dedicated to the 75 th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, reports the Union State portal.

Ambassador of Belarus to Russia Dmitry Mezentsev said that the album includes stories of a hundred unique exhibits from the collections of six major historical museums in Belarus and Russia: the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War (Victory Museum in Moscow), Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, State Historical and Memorial Museum-Reserve “Battle of Stalingrad”, Sevastopol Military-Historical Museum-Reserve, State Memorial Complex “Khatyn”, Memorial Complex “Brest Hero-Fortress”.

“The work on the book exemplifies seamless interaction between representatives of the museum community of Belarus and Russia, representatives of the publishing house, Belarusian and Russian partners. These people worked closely together to complete a common task, tirelessly, being on the same wavelength,” said Dmitry Mezentsev.

Each exhibit presented in the album has its own unique story. Among them, there are elements of uniforms and ammunition of Soviet soldiers and commanders, weapons and equipment the Victory was achieved with, old photographs, letters from the front, diary entries. These are silent witnesses of the feat of people who defended their country and saved the world from fascism.

“Each page impresses. The book shows the ideological commitment, drama and courage of Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, the peoples of Belarus and Russia. It shows the days that led us to the Great Victory. I believe this book will help us educate the younger generation, it will be an important lesson for many,” said Minister of Information of Belarus Alexander Karlyukevich.

Director of the publishing house Petrus Brovka Belarusian Encyclopedia Olga Vanina added that the book had already aroused great public interest. According to her, recently the publishing house has published more than a dozen books devoted to the Great Patriotic War and the Great Victory.

“The book brings together rarities that highlight military events from different perspectives, but at the same time make up a single mosaic. You see how fragile our life is, but people persevered and gained Victory. It is crucial to remember about it,” commented Olga Vanina.

The album was prepared on the initiative of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev with the support of the Union State Standing Committee and the All-Russian Public-State Organization “Russian Military Historical Society”.
