The Rzhev Memorial Complex is being erected in memory of the Red Army soldiers on the initiative of World War II veterans at the site of the bloody battles of Rzhev in 1942-1943. The project is being implemented by the Russian Military Historical Society with the support of the Union State, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the government of Tver Oblast.
“The works on the monument at the Rzhev Memorial have been fully completed. I really hope that the monument will be appreciated. Now I am emotionally drained as for two and a half years I lived and breathed this project. I would like to thank everyone who was building the monument. The result is worthy thanks to your hard work,” wrote Andrei Korobtsov.
Initially, the sculpture of the Soldier was molded of clay and divided into 600 parts, which were cast bronze separately. In the central part of the monument, there is a bronze figure of an SMG-41, 9 m long and weighing about 2.5 tons. The lower part of the composition is formed by the figures of a flying flock of cranes.
The memorial is being built without federal funds, but using public donations.
