The official said: “Our security services have the proof. Our security services worked together [with Belarusian ones] to mount an operation designed to foil criminal plans meant to overthrow the legal government in Belarus. The security services have all the necessary proof. Besides, they also have confessions of some of the plotters.”
Previously the Public Relations Center of Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) reported that FSB officers had worked together with Belarus' KGB to stop unlawful activity of the dual Belarusian-American citizen Yuri Zenkovich and the Belarusian national Aleksandr Feduta. According to the FSB, the persons in custody had intended to stage a military coup in Belarus according to a color revolution scenario with assistance of local and Ukrainian nationalists. Physical elimination of the Belarusian president was also part of the plot. The military coup was supposed to take place during the Victory Day parade in Minsk on 9 May.
According to Belarusian investigators, the attempt to stage the coup was sponsored by foreign parties and the plotters maintained close ties with terror groups. At least three scenarios for seizing power were worked out.
