Dairy products account for 43.3% of Belarus' farm exports

Dairy products account for 43.3% of the export of agricultural products and foodstuffs, Head of the Main Department for Foreign Economic Activities of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry Aleksei Bogdanov told the media on 28 August, BelTA has learned.

“In January-June 2020 export of milk and dairy products amounted to $1.179 billion. In physical terms, exports increased by 5.8%: cheese and cottage cheese by 10.1%, dry whole milk by 1.3%, milk and condensed cream by 30.2%, dry milk whey by 24.3%,” Aleksei Bogdanov informed.
Cheeses and cottage cheese account for 43.4% of dairy export, butter - 16.9%, whole milk products - 16.2%, skimmed milk - 11.1%, dry whey - 3.4%, whole milk powder - 3.1%, other - 5.9%.
Belarus exported dairy products to 47 countries in H1 2020. Major markets were Russia, Kazakhstan, China and Ukraine. Fifty-six Belarusian dairy companies have been accredited to export to China. In January-June Belarus exported milk and dairy products worth $32.6 million to China, almost two times up year-on-year. Belarus' major export items to China were dry skimmed milk, dry milk whey. Belarus also shipped drinking milk, butter, cheeses and cottage cheeses, whole milk powder to the Chinese market,” Aleksei Bogdanov said.
In July 2020, China reviewed materials for the export of Belarusian dairy feed additives and gave a positive conclusion. OAO Bellakt's trial batches of formulas successfully passed tests in a Shanghai laboratory. A package of documents required to register the mixtures has been sent to a distributor in Beijing who will translate them into Chinese and send to the Chinese State Administration for Market Regulation for a repeated audit.
“We view the CIS countries, the countries of the Asian region, the Persian Gulf and Africa as promising markets for dairy products," Aleksei Bogdanov said.
